Lack of consultation for Scenic Acres School

After dealing with some family issues, I finally had an opportunity to express my concern in regards to a proposed Francophone school planned to be built in Scenic Acres. The school has been slated for the following area in Scenic Acres:

This is one of the charms of the area. Open fields for Timbits soccer, baseball, sledding, tennis, etc. How much area will the new school take?

To: Scenic Acres Residents

After receiving a great deal of feedback on the school issue, I have decided to organize an open house to facilitate questions and concerns. This meeting will take place at the Crowchild Twin Arena on May 21, 2014 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm.

As the Alberta Government respects the autonomy of the other levels of government, and the mandates of the various school boards which operate within the province, I have invited the Councillor for Ward 1, the Calgary Board of Education Trustee for Ward 1 and 2, and representatives from the Conseil scolaire FrancoSud to attend this information session. Time will also be allotted for a question-and-answer session after the various stakeholders speak.

When my wife first told me about the school, I thought it was a NIMBY issue from one of her friends that lived nearby. However, I now feel that the community was not consulted and it seems that decisions have already been made by different levels of government. This is not right. I was planning a quiet evening after my daughter's Timbits soccer for this Wednesday, but I will be at the Twin Arenas instead.
